A prescription for death
In the last year, the world said goodbye to two celebrities who died due to accidental overdose of prescription meds. First, Heath Ledger took too many sleeping tablets. Then Michael Jackson died from cardiac arrest brought on by the misuse of medication.
In the latest chapter of the saga around the death of ex-Playboy model Anna Nicole Smith, it has come to light that a pharmacist actually refused to fill her prescription, because he viewed the combination of medications as “pharmaceutical suicide”.
People tend to think that only illegal drugs – the kind you buy from dodgy-looking characters in back streets – are dangerous. But in actual fact, almost all drugs can be harmful if not used correctly. So, carefully read those package inserts and speak to your doctor or pharmacist about the correct use of your prescription and over-the-counter medicines. And seek help if you realize you’ve become just a little too dependent on them.
Check out the drugs you use everyday. Is it necessary or a necessity?
Can you get a good herbal product in its place?
